Pattern Creation

Today I wanted to create some patterns using Adobe Illustrator based on some of the textures I saw at each of the locations.

Weta Cave

I found the patterns on the wood panels at Weta Cave interesting. The grain and knots in the wood inspired the patterns I created to the left. I tried to create abstract patterns using the lines and flow of the grain and the dark knots.

When creating these patterns to represent the texture of the rock face on the walls at Weta Cave, I wanted to focus on the multiple small points that can be seen in the photo to the left.

Embassy Theatre

One of the main textures that struck me while I was in the cinema was seat fabric, so I tried to recreate the small fibres with the pattern on the left and as I was leaving the cinema, the pattern of all of the seats was interesting so I tried to recreate that image with the pattern on the right.

The thing that stood out to me in this railing pattern was the square and cross patterns. I thought the lines made for an interesting image although I decided to change the circle into a 'X' to keep with the overlying cross patter.

Film Archive

One texture that really stood out at the Film Archive was the metal that the film roll covers were made out of. I tried to create patterns that represented the form of the covers themselves, hence the circular pattern and the pattern that resembles the stacks of film rolls.
